The Story I Don’t Want to Tell You…
I grew up with the last name “Butts.”
Yep, I kid you not. I was Rebecca Butts for the first 27 years of my life! ?
And as you can imagine, I was teased relentlessly. Growing up, I felt embarrassed much of the time to just “be me.”
For many years I took on the belief that “something is wrong with me,” and “I’m not good enough.”
I finally changed my name when I was 27 (to Bell) and then I changed it again when I married in my late ’30s (to my current last name).
About 4 years ago, I attended a transformational speaking workshop, and the story I DIDN’T want to share spilled out on stage (along with a flood of tears) in front of a live audience.
I shared it because I realized that this story I was holding back from others was holding ME back.
By sharing it, it helped me let go of the old yucky disempowering beliefs, freed me to BE ME and connect with my ideal clients in a much more fun, authentic and compelling way.
YOU have a story, too. Lots of them, in fact! Your stories endear you to your audience. They make you memorable. They make you trustworthy.
And you better believe it, they are WORTH sharing.
When you learn to tell your story in a way that positions you with credibility, but also vulnerability, it literally activates the “buying” part of your ideal client’s brain–the emotional center–and moves them toward you!
