3 Ways to Access Your Inner Wisdom Business Expert

3 Ways to Access Your Inner Wisdom Business Expert

I believe we all have an inner business wisdom expert.

It’s an inner voice, sense, knowing or nudge from our soul that is infinitely wise, calm, clear and directive on the decisions and actions to take in every area of lives–from our business, our relationships, our finances, our health, and even where to find that parking spot!

The key to hearing that wise expert guide in you is sloooooooowing down, taking time throughout your day to relax your mind and body completely, and setting aside regular intervals throughout your day to tune in and connect with that part of you.

Here’s an example of how I’ve been supported by my inner wisdom business expert: last month a Platinum client emailed me for coaching support in between our regular twice a month sessions. Instead of firing off a response in typical fashion, I breathed and felt into what she was really needing, and then I slept on it. I gave myself space for clarity and wisdom to emerge.

The next day I sent a brief email, saying what needed to be said to my client and asking her a simple question.

From that question a wealth of insights and clarity poured out of her, including articulating her genius, clarifying what she’s not good at and the specific areas where she is needing support.

I later heard back from her saying, “Look what your question inspired today. I have already written TWO blogs today that are very real!”

So how do we get in touch with this inner wisdom business expert (aka, our intuition)?

Because it’s typically not a loud, demanding voice, vision or sensation, although you may experience it that way.  More often than not, it’s more like a whisper, a subtle nudge, a rippling of a vision, or an inspired idea that comes in when you’re in a relaxed state of mind. That’s why some of the best ideas can come when you’re taking a shower or just waking up from a nap!

Here are 3 ways you can access your inner wisdom business expert:

1) Get your morning download! (Coffee is optional.)

Start your day off with your journal and an empowering question you want to ask your inner wisdom business expert. Set a timer for 20 minutes and then write down whatever answers come to you. Don’t censor anything. Here are some sample questions to help get you started:

  • What is mine to do today?
  • What are the next steps for me to take in my business?
  •  What steps can I take today to attract my ideal clients?
-
  • As someone who easily attracts new ideal clients, who am I called to connect with today–or this week?
  • What do I need to know about growing revenue in my business?
  • What steps can I take today toward this project or goal of X?
  • In what ways can I choose to show up in my power today?
  • What do I need to let go of in my schedule or in my environment to create more space?

2) “Take two” throughout your day.

Create small moments throughout your day to relax your body and mind completely. You may feel like you don’t have time or don’t want to sit for 20 or 30 minutes in a mindfulness practice each day. I get it. I’m someone who has “tried” to have a regular meditation practice for years. Lately, I have found what works for me with meditating and that’s to take time throughout my day to still my mind. So I now set an alarm chime to go off at five minutes before each hour. When I hear the chime, I stop what I’m doing to relax, take some deep breaths, empty my mind and just be. I often set a timer for 2 minutes when I get this reminder, and just sit and breathe. I call this my “take two” time.

3) Pause and ask: Does this activity feel heavy or light? Does it make me feel focused or scattered?

With every business activity you are engaging in or are thinking about engaging in, you can pause and check in. What do you notice? Does it feel heavy or light or somewhere in between? Does it make you feel clear and focused, or scattered and overwhelmed? Where is your motivation for doing this coming from? Are you doing an activity because you “should” do it or it’s what the “experts” say to do? Or is it coming from your natural joy and self-expression? Does it really light you up? What drives a lot of my business decisions and actions is this noticing.

When an idea comes up that lights me up–even though it can feel scary, too!–then I know it’s my inner wisdom business expert talking to me. When I’m doing an activity that feels “heavy,” then I stop and reassess: Is this really mine to do? Or maybe I’ll ask, what support am I needing here?

Give one or more of these a try, and comment below with your thoughts or experiences with accessing your inner wisdom business expert!

My Fave Books for 2016

My Fave Book Recommendations for 2016

Books, books, books. I LOVE books! And I especially love how they can have such a life-changing impact on our lives.

Here are 6 top recommendations of books I read last year, plus 5 of my all-time favorites:

The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks

If you’re ready to step into and truly live in your Zone of Genius, then get this book now. Hendricks lays out exactly what stops us from fully living our brilliance and what we can do about it. This book is such an easy, compelling read that the first time I read it, I finished it in just a few days. Now, I’m going through it a second time more methodically with my Mastermind partners. Five stars all around!

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

If you want permission to express yourself creatively and to stop holding back your art—whatever form that takes—this is definitely the book for you. I don’t consider myself an artist in the traditional sense—an artist of my life, yes!—but I found Gilbert’s inspiring words applicable to me as an entrepreneur. She makes it so easy to just keep expressing your voice and creativity and putting your stuff out there, warts and all!

The Presence Process by Michael Brown

Warning: this book is not for the faint of heart! But if you’re ready to do the deep emotional clearing work that’s required to cultivate present moment awareness, then buy this one. Brown will take you on a 10-week journey to accomplishing and maintaining genuine personal peace. It’s not easy, but it’s worth the lifetime benefits.

Busting Loose from the Money Game by Robert Scheinfeld

This book was pivotal for rewiring how I think of money, the triggers that come with money, and specific ways to reverse the intensity and take back my power with not only money, but in every situation where I give my power away. The insight that each one of us is the scriptwriter for everything that happens in our experience (and I mean, everything!) is priceless.

Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives by Gretchen Rubin

A great book if you want to start a new healthy habit, especially if it’s something you love to do, or break an old unhealthy habit. What I love about this book is that Rubin does not take a one-size-fits-all approach to habits. Instead, she draws on cutting-edge science, plus her fun and quirky personal observations, to make the case that change is possible for everyone, but you must know yourself first and discover what will suit your individual temperament.

Short Moments, Many Times by the Balanced View Team

It’s hard to explain this book, but it’s such a beautiful book of awakening that brings such relief and expansion to everyday moments in life. Here’s a quote that may help describe the book a bit better: “When something appears—whether it’s a thought, emotion, sensation or experience—rather than getting involved in the story about that experience, the choice is made to rely on open intelligence and to acknowledge open intelligence rather than getting involved in all the descriptions and ideas that have been used to describe everything.

And here are 5 of my all-time favorites that I find myself picking up over and over again:

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles

Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks

Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda

Wishes Fulfilled by Dr. Wayne Dyer

So tell me…

Is there a book here that speaks to you?

And what have been some of the pivotal or life-changing books for you lately?

I’d love to hear! Drop me a line, or post them in my blog comments below.

A Tribute to a Dear Friend

A dear friend of mine, someone whom I’ve known for more than 20 years, passed away recently. It was sudden. A diagnosis came and then about eight weeks later, poof, he was gone.

Last weekend we gathered to honor his amazing life, and what a life it was.

Upon returning, I got the hit to not do my typical ezine this month and, instead, write something to honor his memory. So, Jimmy, this one is for you, my friend.

There’s a saying to “live everyday as if it were your last day.”

And that, in so many words, was exactly how Jimmy lived his life–pursuing his passions relentlessly every single day. Day in and day out. Even when he got “no’s or deals fell through or he ran out of money. This is definitely not a man who died with the music still in him.

He literally poured out his heart, soul and mind for decades–writing spiritual and personal growth books, developing financial market theories and tools, designing, publishing and marketing his own work, and pursuing a lifelong passion: filmmaking. (In the ’70s, he got his masters degree in film from Columbia University.)

His latest project was taking on the gargantuan task of creating a multi-part documentary on what seems like an impossible subject to tackle: “The History & Future of Humanity.”

People called him crazy. Obsessed. Over the top.

And maybe he was those things… but so what?

He DARED to get his voice, his art, his passion out into the world. He dared to shine his brilliance and dream big. To dream a big fat impossible dream and get up every single day with relentless drive and JUST DO IT.

Even if it meant living on the edge. Even if it meant people calling him crazy. (He would often poke fun at himself and say “Yep, I probably am.”)

This was a man of enormous courage, persistence, creativity, genius-like intelligence and action.

In those last weeks of his life, I spoke with him by phone and had the opportunity to visit with him, even though we now lived miles apart.

On those occasions, with as much strength as he could muster, he urged me to LIVE IT UP for him. To eat, drink and be merry. To seize the day. To take hold of each precious present moment and savor it. To give with wild abandon and not waste a second of life holding back.

I’ve been thinking about what this really means for me–and for you.

Quite simply, it comes down to this:

It’s time. Enough already. Time to get your voice, your art, your message, your gifts out into the world. Time to not hold back anymore. Time to come out from hiding and share your passion with others with ALL your heart, with every fiber of your being.

Time to live on the raw edge of ALIVENESS, as if today were your very last. And definitely time to stop freakin’ caring what others think of you, or if you’re bothering people. So what.

I say all those things because that “you” I’m referring to is also “me.” I had a million and one excuses to not send this email to you today. Too busy with clients. Too exhausted from travel. Too emotionally drained. Too many things on my “to do” list. Too… blah blah blah.

Steve Jobs in his famous commencement speech to Stanford grads said this:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

So a simple takeaway from this is to look at your calendar.

Do you wholeheartedly LOVE everything on it today? I mean, really and truly? And what about this week? And next month?

Are you waking up each morning excited to do what you absolutely and totally and madly LOVE? Doing what your heartreally, really wants? Not what you “should” be doing or what “makes sense” logically or what’s going to bring you the most money. As Steve Jobs says, those things are secondary.

So my urging to you today, via a precious soul who has gone on to a different dimension, is to LIVE IT UP. Seize the moment. Carpe diem.

Live today as if it were your last. Look at your calendar from the lens of “What would I LOVE?” and take those steps each day that have you live on that raw edge of becoming more and more of who you truly are.

You are Divine. You are Brilliant. You have a Wild and Precious Life to life. You have Great Gargantuan Gifts to Give. So, go do it. Now. Today.

My wish For You on the Solstice

My Wish for You on the Solstice

Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year!

Today is also Shab-e-Yalda–“Night of Birth”–a Persian Winter Solstice celebration of the longest and darkest night of the year where families gather to eat, drink and read Hafez poetry.

With the New Moon also occurring today, wowza! What a POWERFUL time of “rebirth” we are in.

My wish for you today is that you recognize and acknowledge your own “astonishing light”–the gifts and unique brilliance of YOU and all that you’re here to express, enjoy and share with others.

My invitation to you is that on this “Night of Birth,” use the potent energy of the Solstice/New Moon/New Year time to say goodbye to the old in your life and anchor in the NEW.

Take these 3 easy, but powerful steps:

1) Create a simple ritual for yourself where you release all the disappointments, regrets and dissatisfactions from the past year.

Write them down, then shred or burn them to symbolically let go of those things that no longer serve you. Say out loud to the things you’ve written down, “I release you.”

2) Then, write down 10 or more things you would LOVE for your life in the New Year.

Use the heightened energy of this time to anchor in your new intentions and goals.

3) The final step is to ask and then write your answer to a question I often ask my clients:

What’s the most exciting, fun and expansive vision I can imagine for my life?

This is a powerful reset time. So don’t miss it.

Seize this opportunity to anchor your new intentions and the dreams of your heart, so that you can shine the light of your unique brilliance even brighter in your work and passions!

I’ll be back early in the New Year and have planned many new articles on money, marketing and mindset and ways you can take these to the next level of success in your business, career and life.

In the meantime, I send you my heartfelt wishes–in all the ways you celebrate with your family and friends–for a wonderful and magical holiday full of warmth, love, laughter and light.

Namaste (Sanskrit for “the light in me honors the light in you”),

Rebecca
