My biggest “aha” as a TEDx speaker coach

Recently, I had the joy of coaching two TEDx speakers Bonnie and Bisleen on their incredible talks delivered at TEDxRutgersCamden two weeks ago. I’m so proud of them!
While the live event got cancelled (darn Omicron), they both did a fantastic job of quickly shifting to record their talks on their own, which were then aired at a virtual livestream event.
One of the biggest “ahas” I learned from this experience is…
You can be a “regular” person and speak on the TEDx stage.
It’s not just for big-name folks or those who have bestselling books or oodles of letters after their name. And you don’t need another credential or to wait until after your book is published to share your idea worth spreading.
Bonnie and Bisleen are regular folks, like you and me. And yet, they are also extraordinary.
They’re extraordinary in that they had the guts to apply to speak on a TEDx stage.
They’re extraordinary in that they garnered the wisdom and experience in their careers–no matter how long they’ve been doing it–and dared to put their ideas on paper and turn it into a 12-minute talk.
They’re extraordinary in that they openheartedly received feedback and support to help them hone their ideas, delivery and stage presence.
They’re extraordinary because they had the courage to prepare to stand on stage in front of a live audience in Camden, New Jersey.
And they’re extraordinary in that they then had the grace and fortitude to pivot quickly and record their talks for a virtual event.
Regular folks who are also extraordinary. That’s you and me, too.
Here’s what Bisleen, whose talk challenges the current paradigm of mental health, shared with me about our work together:
“Rebecca is an excellent speaking coach. She helped me perfect my talk by getting me to be selective about my word choices and by teaching me how to present in a powerful way. Rebecca also gave me tips to help me decrease my stage anxiety and memorize effectively. My TEDx talk would not have been same without her support, and I am grateful to have had a chance to work with her!”

If you have a dream of speaking on the TEDx stage–or any other kind of stage–it’s possible, and you can do this!
I’d love to support you. I can help you develop your idea worth spreading, craft your script or signature talk outline, find & book the stages that light you up, plus support with creating your speaker pitch packet, practicing your delivery, amplifying your stage presence, and more.
